An insiders guide to hiding safely during a storm

It's the time of year where storms are brewing and threatening to strike. Be prepared with our insider’s guide on how to stay safe during a storm!
SERVPRO of East Nashville is dedicated to your home and business remediation, however, our number one goal is to make sure you and your family are safe. Below are a few tips for keeping yourself safe during a storm:
1) Find out if you live in an evacuation zone, or whether your home is more susceptible to flooding or wind damage. If you do live in an evacuation zone, make sure that you have already evacuated before the storm strikes. If not, make sure you can get on higher ground as soon as possible when the warning sirens sound off.
2) Keep away from windows and doors - this will minimize any potential flying debris coming into contact with you. Most importantly though, never take shelter under a tree because they are especially likely to be uprooted.
3) Stay away from the water, but make sure you close out local waterways during high tide. Doing this will minimize any flooding that may occur.
4) Pull down your shutters and cover your windows with boards to avoid shattering glass all over your home or business premises.
5) Leave a note outside of your home with contact details for emergency services in case they need to contact someone who is missing from the wreckage due to the storm.
6) Listen to the radio for updates on when the storm is going to be hitting, and when it arrives just stay indoors until it has passed.
After the storm has passed and you and your family are in a safe location, contact SERVPRO of East Nashville as soon as possible to make sure we can attend to any home or business issues. Contact us at (615)868-5324.
