Fire Prevention Week | SERVPRO® of East Nashville, Madison, Goodlettsville

Often times most household fires are very preventable. Many times we get caught up in the routine of life; which is when accidents occur. Each year the National Fire Prevention Association works tirelessly to bring to the attention to the public of just how preventable fires are.

Fire Prevention Week was brought about as a way to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire, which was started on October 8, 1871. The Great Chicago Fire resulted in the deaths of 250 people, left thousands homeless, and destroyed nearly 20,000 structures. In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge officially named the first week of October as Fire Prevention Week.

Remember these three tips to help prevent fires in your household:

  1. Unplug any electrical device when not in use.
  2. Do not store any flammable items in places that may become hot.
  3. Use caution while in the kitchen.

By remembering these three simple tips, you can significantly decrease your chances for having a household fire.
