Water Removal in Madison -The Equipment We Use When Floods, Leaks, and Overflows Happen

1/17/2017 (Permalink)

There are many different types of equipment used in the process of removing water from a home's interior. The many different types of restorations we at SERVPRO do require this. Flood damage is one of the worst disasters that can strike a home, but it isn't the only one involving water.

Madison homeowners who have water problems in their home know that complete water removal always starts with stopping the flow of water. Solved When you've had a water line that's started to spray water everywhere while you were out of the house, or a tub overflowing because you were distracted with a knock at the door, getting to the shut-off valve or pulling the plug is first on your mind when you find out about it. After that, getting as much of the water cleaned up as you can. But you can't get all of it, not after it's seeped into cracks and small crevices, and every home has those, no matter their age. That's where we come in.

Using moisture meters, a professionally trained technician from SERVPRO can determine how high an area's moisture content is. Comparing the readings with industry-accepted moisture content levels, we know how much drier materials need to be in order to be considered dry. Almost everything has some amount of moisture in it naturally, including drywall. While the amount may seem high, 5 – 15% moisture for different materials found within your home's structure, those amounts are within normal ranges. Problems start when the percentages increase over the norm.

Depending on the type of water that caused you problems, we'll use a variety of tools and equipment to rid your home of the excess moisture. If you have wood floors, one thing you should know is that time is even more against you than it might be otherwise. Wood floors can absorb excess moisture from all four sides and then swell. Expanding against other pieces of flooring can cause both the warp or crack, requiring them to be replaced – a costly, time-consuming, and noisy activity. If we are called soon after a water emergency happens in your home, we can use special floor mats that help remove the water absorbed by your wood floor. These floor mats, when applied in time, can save your floor.

Fans and heaters are also used to create a drying environment that is conducive toward drying out walls, cabinets, and the air in your home. We always use the right level of drying equipment to not only return your home to a safe, dry place, but also to keep your electric bill reasonable.
